Here is my weekly progress and rough planning for Magazine Project.
WEEK 1
In Week 1, I was absent because I need to go out of town for health purposes. I miss several topics and knowledge but hopefully I'm able to catch up with all of the materials in the subject by analyzing my friends blogs and seeing Mr. Nick's blogger to see important information that I've missed.
WEEK 2
In week two, we were introduced to media representation theory by Stuart Hall. I think it really relates to the magazine project. On Friday, we were introduced to the new media language words to analyze and describe the features of a magazine. I find it confusing for the first time but finally came up with the idea as Mr. Nick explains the material repeatedly and as we analyze a magazine together in the class. Forgot to mention that we were also given a homework to analyze the front cover of a magazine, I found that the homework was easier than I expected but I feel like I didn't put my best effort on it. I really must put my best on the next project.
WEEK 3
-Discuss Stuart Hall's representation theory
-Analyzed two front cover in detail
-Started a mini analysis of a double page spread
-Took photos of Magazines in my Dad's Workshop
Problem: I'm still debating on what Magazine genre to choose, between the Automotive or Fashion genre
Solution: I stick on what's on my head and my plan right now
Reflection:
One quote from Stuart Hall that lingers in my mind "Media doesn't reflect meaning, it creates meaning". That statement alone can change one's self, as it gives clarity to the perception of reality and/or life itself, like it did mine. This media lessons isn't just about media, making movies, or analyzing magazines, it is something we can apply and utilize in our life. I did a change in the format of my weekly progress writing due to my teacher's idea for the formatting.
WEEK 4
- Put magazines up on the database
- Tried to complete statement of intent
- Started on the magazine development
Problems: My time management; I could not think of a subheading for the double page spread.
Solutions: I will continue to brainstorm a sub-heading and layout for my double page spread.
To-Do: Finish my statement of intent; do more research
I enjoyed this week's progress as it was very simple and allowed to unleash my inner creativity. I found it challenging to manage my time because I felt very lazy this week. I want to catch up over the weekend and before Friday of next week.
